Monster make up test

It might be just a bit too early to publish this but I can't help myself. We did a first test make up of a monster called Turo today. This was to note any problems we might have with the prosthetics and make up. And there were quite a few things to attend to. He's still missing a fore head piece and some teeth. The hair will be trimmed, the appliance will be toned to a more realistic color, mouth will be made smaller, the appliance as a whole needs to be made thiner so that it will attach to the skin properly. So there's lots of things to do. Still after this test shoot I'm much more confident that we'll get there eventually. I'm so exited right now.

About cosplay

I've wanted to post some cosplay pictures for some time now. I've been having a break from cosplay since 2009 although I did fix my Ashe costume and wore it again in Desucon 2010. But I haven't made a new costume for almost three years now so these pictures feel old as hell. I find my self critisizing every little thing in these costumes cause I know I could make them so much better today. In any case I wanted to show them because I feel that there's something I've learned through making these costumes.

Christmas goods

It's kind of hard to believe but our schools Christmas Bazaar is almost here. I'm selling jewellery again. I bought some beautiful silk scarfs and turned them into pearl covers. There are many different colors and sizes.

Photo and lighting by Maija. Thank you darling~

I just love these red ones. The fabric is simply beautiful.

I left some extra fabric at both ends so it can be tied around the neck.

The Bazaar is held 26.11-27.11 at Lahti and you can find more information about it here. I'm not able to be there myself but fortunately I have friends to help me out. Be sure to visit us! There are many great people to meet and lots of beautiful design pieces to buy.

Custom ties

Here's a custom belt and a brooch for a friend of mine. The belt is made of two similar wide ties that are cut to length and combined with a black rubberband on the back. The belt is measured to fit the waist and fastened with a hook on the front. I intend to make more belts since this one turned out great. The only prolem with these is finding two ties that are similar enough since I'm buying my materials second hand. Buying ties brand new is also an option but it's definately going to raise the price of one belt. And I really do want to keep the prices reasonable. And recycle. So we'll see what happens.

Monster breasts

For some of you this picture might not mean anything but fear not you'll see whats going on eventually. This is actually going to be the most insane, stupid and time-consuming costume project I've ever started. And I'm absolutely thrilled about it. So here's the first look on this baby. She's got some crazy boobs.

Monster teaser

I hate the fact that I haven't been able to update lately. It's not like I haven't been doing stuff. I've been working on five projects at the same time. They're all still in progress so I have nothing much to upload yet. I should probably try to focus on one project at a time to get things done. It's not like I must work on two cosplays simultaneously.

Anyway, here's a teaser of yet another monster mask. The back of his head is on a mold and shouders and hands are on the way. It's the first time I'm casting silicone and this mask is a second cast. The first one went horribly wrong. Since then I've learned to be quite carefull with this stuff cause I definately don't want to rub uncured silicone off of a mold ever again. Yeah.

Old ones

You probably havent seen these unless you're my friend on livejournal or you've been bored enough to go trough my photobucket album. So I figured it would be nice to show you guys something I did way back in 2009 (it's been only three years?) I was working at prop department on a play called Kalevala at Lahti. It was more of a practise than an actual job though but I had a great time. I learnt a lot. Especially about how things that are made in hurry tend to break when worn by actors/actresses. And it really sparked my intrest in the field of prop making. So here you have it, my early work.
